Ever since the state of Israel was established in , it has been plagued by war, and that has presented religious Zionists with an immense challenge. Jewish law prior to includes little material on war because it developed during centuries when Jews had neither a state nor an army. The leading rabbis of the religious Zionist community have therefore had to create an entire body of laws. The Politics of Morality is an anthropological study of this expansion of power by the religious right and its effects on individual rights and social mores. It explores the contradictions of postsocialist democratization in Poland: an emerging democracy on one hand, and a declining tolerance for reproductive rights, women’s rights, and.

Economic Morality and Jewish Law compares the way in which welfare economics and Jewish law determine the propriety of an economic action, whether by a private citizen or the government. Espousing what philosophers would call a consequentialist ethical system, welfare economics evaluates the worthiness of an economic action based on whether the action would increase the wealth of society in. Religion and Law Law and religion are regulators of social relations, acting as the most active elements of the legal and religious systems. They play a decisive role, establishing specific rules for the behavior of people in society. In this perspective, law and religion appear as two close social normative systems, influencing social development.

Morality in Judaism is very structured. There are many laws and rules that help the Jewish people distinguish proper behaviour. In fact, Judaism is considered to be "a way of life." For all things, there is a proper Jewish way to conduct yourself. To live morally is to follow this proper Jewish code of conduct.   The second edition retains the selection of texts presented in the first edition but offers them in new translations by Richard J Regan -- including that of his Aquinas, Treatise on Law (Hackett, ). A revised Introduction and glossary, an updated select bibliography, and the inclusion of summarising headnotes for each of the units -- Conscience, Law, Justice, Property, War and Killing 2/5(2).
